In 1977, we started manufacturing Perlite Silicate Pipe & Block Insulations as a subcontractor to a Wilmington, Delaware firm with manufacturing rights to a Patent held by E.I. DuPont Co. The quality control of these products was so poor that breakage in shipments and handling limited its acceptance. In 1979, we therefore requested and were granted a license to manufacture Perlite Silicate Pipe & Block Insulations by the DuPont Company. Our first order of business was to improve and upgrade the quality of the existing product. We developed a new formula and started producing an acceptable product with better physical and thermal properties in 1980.

In 1981, Molded 90° & 45° Elbows were added to the product line. In 1985 we introduced the first water repellent Perlite Silicate Insulation in the thermal insulation industry. Originally these properties were limited to 400° F, but today these water resistant properties are effective up to 700° F.

In 1988, demand for WR-1200 Perlite Pipe & Block was growing so rapidly that it was obvious that the limited production capabilities in Devault, PA could not meet the demand. Either a highly leveraged major expansion program had to be initiated or the company had to be sold to someone with the financial resources to finance a major expansion program. In October of 1988 the Pipe Covering & Block Manufacturing Rights were sold to the Calsilite Corporation of Brunswick, GA. Sproule Mfg. Co. retained the rights to manufacture molded specialty items such as 90° & 45° elbows, T’s, flange covers, and valve covers. Calsilite Corporation moved the Pipe & Block manufacturing to Brunswick, GA, in October, 1989.

1995 brought our first ventures outside the state of Pennsylvania. We held the grand opening of our Houston, TX warehouse. In conjunction with Extol of Texas (now SPI/Extol) we hit the ground running with over 1,000 perlite elbows in the Gulf Coast market. By 1997, we required a larger warehouse to handle the demand for our High Temperature Pre-Molded Perlite Fitting Covers. We moved our inventory to Distribution International/Houston, TX. DI provided us with sufficient space and support to allow our inventory to grow.

1997 began with the construction of our new production facility in Devault, PA. This 25,000 sqft metal building would allow us to consolidate all product lines under one roof. Construction was completed in December of 1997 and all product lines were moved by the end of January 1998.

The new millennium brought a new product line for Sproule Mfg. Co., Inc., WeatherJacs™. These large-bore metal elbows are designed to fill the void where the current metal manufacturer leave off. We used our expertise in presses, molds, and large pipe sizes to launch this exciting new product line. Gary Sproule's new patented 'Weather Seal' also added a new feature to revolutionize the metal elbow market. We are rapidly building new molds to handle the demand for our new WeatherJacs™.

Today, we are the largest manufacturer of molded fitting covers in the country with warehouses in Devault, PA and Houston, TX.
